This is the second night in a row I have watched a highly acclaimed film but walked away unimpressed. I really, really wanted to like Melencholia, and I did like some parts including the visually stunning majority of the film, but in general, I wish I like it more. Hmmm….

I personally loved this film. It did not put on airs of being anything more than director Lars Von Trier set out for it to be, which is a beautiful movie about the end of the world. It paints a striking portrait of depression and weaves in both emotional and physical destruction.
All in all a mesmerizing cacophony of nihilism and romanticism.

i agree with both opinions here. when i saw it, i was very bored through most of it. i walked away unimpressed, but then i found myself thinking about it obsessively. which to me means that it is a good movie. in a way, the weak parts of the film demonstrated the way people are when they’re depressed - that nothing really matters. it is a strange film… predictable and subtle but resonates in your mind.
